For Parents

Ways to honor Cardwell include renaming school

cardwell (Small).jpegOne idea floated by school board members is renaming the Union Bower Center for Learning for former trustee Barbara Cardwell, who recently passed away. Union Bower is a non-traditional high school traditionally for struggling students that is being remodeled and redesigned into an academy with career tracks.

This would be like The Academy of Irving ISD being renamed Singley Academy for the former superintendent, except that trustees suggested that students may accept renaming because the old name has a negative stigma attached to it as an alternative school. They also want to signal a new beginning. But would it be Cardwell Academy, Cardwell Center, Cardwell High School?

Another idea was renaming the board room that trustees meet in, or a new middle school built in the future.

What do you think? The school district is taking your suggestions here.

N1H1 Flu (Swine Flu)
As students return to campus activities it is possible that students may be exposed to a Type A flu that could potentially be the H1N1 flu (Swine flu).  Please be aware that physicians are not required or is it CDC’s recommendation to confirm H1N1 flu by extensive testing.  If the flu sample taken by the physician indicates type A flu it is being treated as if it is the H1N1.  While this relatively new (novel) flu has generally been mild and most individuals recover without incidence it is highly contagious and has been known to cause serious complications thus students experiencing flu like illness should seek medical attention for testing and treatment.  Flu like illness symptoms are: fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, and extreme fatigue. Your assistance in monitoring for flu like illness and taking active precautions will help to prevent the possible spread of this flu ...
