Cosmetology I is the first of two courses
designed to assist students in acquiring a state Cosmetologist
license. Students enrolling in the Cosmetology program must have
documentation indicating that they have completed 500 hours of
classroom instruction and 1000 hours of lab instruction PRIOR to
taking the licensing exam. Instruction includes classroom and
laboratory experiences in shampooing, cutting, curling and
coloring hair, permanent waving, manicuring, makeup, and
facials. The instructor assists the student in developing the
necessary skills and knowledge for the State Board of
Cosmetology Licensing Exam. Students should have a minimum
of 500 lab hours and 250 classroom hours documented by the end
of year one.
Cosmetology II

Cosmetology II is the second of two required
courses designed to prepare students for Cosmetology licensing.
Students will receive both classroom and lab instruction
throughout the course. Students will also prepare to take both
sections of the state licensing exam. Students must complete
1500 required, documented hours, prior to registration for the
state exam.
Licensure
Cosmetologist
(2 years required) 1000 lab hours and students receive 500
credit hours for attending class. Requires written and
practical exam. Fees covered by CTE for test.
Transportation to and from testing site provided. 17 years of
age.
Shampoo and
Conditioning Specialist
Requires that 150 hours of instruction be
completed within 8 weeks of enrollment and student must be 17
years of age to license.
Manicurist
Requires 600 hours of instruction and student
must be 17 years of age to license.
Facialist
Requires 750 hours of instruction and student
must be 17 years of age to license.
Cost
The cost for enrollment for the complete 2 year
Cosmetology program is 125.00. The amount will cover the
individual costs of the initial state permit, uniform, toolkit,
smock, drape and plastic cape. Students enrolled in a one-year
program will be charged 60.00 to cover costs for permit,
uniform, plastic cape and other supplies for shampoo specialty.
Students will be charged an additional fee for “Facial’s kit”.
Students must provide a photo for the permit. Permit fee must be
paid prior to the first day of class. Once the student is issued
a permit, they will be eligible to work (limited capacity) in a
salon. Fees for state licensing exam will be covered by Irving
I.S.D. provided that the student completes and passes the exam
within one month of their graduation from high school, or
completes the test while enrolled in the course. Irving will
provide transportation for testing for students that are
eligible to test January-May. All fees must be paid prior to
state licensing exam.
