This site contains an index of cartoons by professional cartoonists along with lesson plans on the elementary, middle school, and high school level. The lesson plans include higher-level thinking activities addressing current events. The site is managed by a middle school teacher who is the wife of a professional cartoonist.
 

Lesson Overview
I use these current event cartoons during my Social Studies/ESL block as a springboard for discussions on current events. It is an excellent tool to teach reading strategies like drawing conclusions, making inferences, point-of-view, author's purpose, and fact and opinion.
