Homework

We will begin having homework the second six weeks of school.

On Mondays and Thursdays, your child will bring home a little book to read. I will send home a grammar or spelling worksheet on Tuesdays and a math worksheet on Wednesdays.

To practice spelling words, allow children to write the words with water on the sidewalk, write the words on your back when you call them out, or write with markers or crayons. You may also write the word on your child's back and let them tell you what the word was.

Your child will be bringing home copies of little books twice a week  to share with you. Please encourage your child to read and reread the books over and over. Unless a child practices reading the story until they can read it fluently, they will not become good readers. I suggest that you save all their little books in an old shoe box or empty cereal box for them to read again and again. When a child reads a story many times, they are developing fluency. By the end of the year, you child should be reading 60-90 words per minute.

For specific homework assignments please see the Class News page.
