Meet Ms. Birge

I’m very excited to be teaching at Elliott this year! This will be my sixth year teaching fourth grade in Irving, and I can’t wait to begin. Here is a little bit of information about me.

I was born and raised in Washington State. During the school year I lived near Seattle, with my mom and younger brother, but spent most of my summers in 100 degree weather on the East side of the state with my dad.

I graduated from Central Washington University in Washington State in 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. Soon after graduating, I moved to Texas and starting working for the Irving Independent School District. Last year I earned my Masters in the Art of Teaching.

I try to be very active. I’ve run the Dallas White Rock Marathon the last two years, and am currently training again, but for only half the distance. I obviously enjoy running! I have also discovered a love for cycling, and attempted to ride the MS150 last year, but the weather didn’t cooperate. I like most sports, hanging out with friends, listening to music, reading a good book, or just hanging out with my dog, Bailey.

In my classroom, I promote an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect. I work hard to build a sense of community among my students, and I emphasize the idea of teamwork. I value cooperation and collaboration both in my classroom and as I work with my peers.  I believe that great things can happen when we work together!

Bailey is ready for school - hope you are too!
