Word’s Up- VOCAB. RELAY

Vocab words are posted on their own card and the definitions for each vocab word are posted on another card. Cards are all placed on one side of room or area. Students are on other side of room/area in groups (only about 2-4 kids in each group). One student at a time goes to cards and chooses one  card. They bring it back to the group and another student goes to get a card. Students continue taking turns until all cards are gone. Then there are no more cards then groups start deciding if they have any matches. Any extra cards without matches can be taken back to the card pile and groups can continue making matches until non are left or there is a time limit. Look at what each group has put together and see if it works, ask the class if that is correct or not. This would be a good time to asses their learning of the vocab and fix any misconceptions of the word

Variations to challenge: Add a locomotor movement to their travel path, throw in extra vocab you have not covered yet, increase traveling distance, instead of a definition use a sentence or situation that the vocab word goes with, through in a wacky word that they have learned, increase amount of vocab words

Variations to help: provide a vocab list, decrease traveling distance, decrease amount of vocab words, make definition shorter or more simple, team up helpers together.

DANCE VIDEOS and EXERCISE POWERPOINTS

Use dance videos as: dance breaks (get the wiggles out), transitions between subjects or lessons, as a time filler to set up for the next activity, build brain cells and ignite active brains, before tests or assessments, etc.

See Lively Elementary PE Videos that have already been made.

Also the Lively Shuffle

Dance videos are posted on the Lively Website under KLIV videos on the center right-hand side, then under PE, then choose which video you would like. All are about 2-3 min long, enough for transitions. Students can stand behind desks or an area of your room that is appropriate for group movement.
