This state is facing Ron Unz and his
anti-bilingual campaign. I just can not figure out why a multi-millionaire
who is a software whiz would not spend his money on developing software that
would actually help English language learners. Instead he focuses his
energy and money on forcing his beliefs, correct or incorrect, of the world on
states. Colorado, as has been California and Arizona, is one of the next targets
for Unz.
However, the supporters of bilingual education are much more organized. This group has fought Unz tooth and nail, and recently, lawyers for the pro-bilingual group have presented to the Colorado Supreme Court, and the Court agreed, that the initiative's wording is misleading and untruthful. The professional signature gatherers have also started to collect enough signatures to have the initiative placed on the ballot. I really have a problem with this as people who are completely uninformed about the initiative are being preached to by biased individuals making it sound as if bilingual and ESL education are some sort of evil conspiracy. Read this about an encounter between an acquaintance of mine and a signature gatherer. After reading this I can't help but think of this cartoon.

Simplemente no puedo entender porque un multi-millonario que es un genio con el desarrollo de software no se dedica a desarrollar productos para la computdora que ayudan a los niños que aprenden inglés. Lee esto en inglés de un encuentro entre una amiga mía y un recolector de firmas. Al leer esto, se me ocurre esta caricatura.
