Does Irving ISD offer PreK for 3-year-olds?
Irving ISD offers half-day PreK for 3-year-olds who qualify. The program is housed at the early childhood schools. Spots are limited.

Does Irving ISD offer PreK for 4-year-olds?
Irving ISD offers free and tuition-based full-day PreK for 4-year-olds at all elementary schools and early childhood schools.
Qualifying 4-year-olds can also attend full-day PreK through Head Start at the early childhood schools.

Does Irving ISD charge tuition for PreK?
For students who qualify for PreK, there is no tuition charge. However, the district does offer a tuition-based option for 4-year-olds who who do not qualify for free PreK.
The average weekly tuition rate is $100 and is due on the first day of each month.

What are the hours for PreK?
Half-day PreK for 3-year-olds:
- Morning Session: 7:45 - 10:45 AM (Doors open at 7:15 AM)
- Afternoon Session: 12:15 - 3:15 PM (Lunch is served from 11:45 AM - 12:15 PM)
Full-day PreK for 4-year-olds:
- Tuition-Based: 7:45 AM - 3:15 PM (Doors open at 7:15 AM. After-school care is provided until 5:30 PM)
- Head Start: 7:45 AM - 3:15 PM (Doors open at 7:15 AM)

Is PreK mandatory?
PreK is not mandatory.
For students enrolled in PreK, attendance is required. PreK students are subject to compulsory school attendance rules while they are enrolled in school.

What do students learn in PreK?
Irving ISD focuses on the whole child, making sure they are successful academically, physically, emotionally and socially.
Students are given an iPad, learn through hands-on activities, have access to state-of-the-art playgrounds and are taught by a certified teacher and instructional aide.
PreK is the jumpstart kids need to prepare for kindergarten and beyond.

Does Irving ISD provide transportation?
Irving ISD currently provides transportation for four-year-old students at the three early childhood schools: Kinkeade, Pierce and Clifton.
There is no transportation for three-year-old students, and no transportation for students on a transfer.

Does Irving ISD allow transfers for PreK?
Families who live within Irving ISD boundaries may submit a transfer request for PreK. Transfers for out-of-district families are currently unavailable – unless you are an Irving ISD employee. Only district employees can submit an out-of-district transfer request for PreK.
Transfer requests are accepted March 1 - May 3 at www.IrvingISD.net/Transfers. -
When does my child have to turn 3-years-old or 4-years-old to enroll in the program?
Your child must be 3-years-old to qualify for 3-year-old PreK for the 2021-2022 school year or 4 years-old by September 1.
We do not make exceptions for the birth date.

Do children of military personnel qualify for PreK?
Children of active duty military personnel now qualify for PreK services. This includes:
- Active duty, uniformed members of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force or Coast Guard
- Activated/Mobilized uniformed members of the Texas National Guard or Activated /Mobilized members of the reserves
- Children of military personnel who were killed or injured while on active duty also qualify for PreK services.
The parent or guardian must verify military membership by presenting a Department of Defense photo ID, an official letter from a commander, Department of Defense death certificate form or Purple Heart citation.

If my child does not meet the eligibility requirements, may my child still attend PreK in Irving ISD?
If your child is 4-years-old by September 1, he or she may attend our excellent tuition-based PreK program at one of the three early childhood schools for $100 a week.
