-
What is the Singley Collegiate Academy?
Singley Collegiate Academy is an Early College High School (ECHS) that enable students, regardless of previous academic achievement, to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and one to two years of transferable college credit, tuition free.
-
What is the target population?
Any student that is interested in earning an associate degree can apply/participate, but an ECHS is designed to serve students that are traditionally underserved/underrepresented in college.
-
How are students selected?
- 100 students will be chosen by a lottery.
- We can not use state assessments, discipline, attendance, teacher recommendations, grades, essays or other criteria that create barriers to the program.
- To be eligible, students must be in 8th grade and live within the Irving ISD boundary, or attend an Irving ISD school on an approved out-of-district transfer to enter the lottery.
-
What degrees will the Singley Collegiate Academy offer?
- Associate of Science in General Studies
- Associate of Arts in General Studies
These degrees will allow the students to earn up to 60 transferable hours, including the “core curriculum” that is transferable to Texas public universities.
-
How is the Singley Collegiate Academy different than the Singley Academy?
- Students are grouped in a special cohort of 100 students.
- Goal: Earning an associate degree
- 4 year = High School Diploma + Associate Degree
- Pass TSIA to be able to take the necessary dual credit classes
- Will not be able to be part of the Signature Studies offered at Singley.
- Due to the demands and time required to complete the requirements for the high school diploma and the associate degree, students can’t participate in band, athletics, cheer, etc.
- The first 2 years students will be taking their classes inside the Singley Academy.
- The last 2 years students will be taking most of their classes at North Lake College. They will still be supported by the Singley Collegiate staff and will still have access to all Irving ISD services.
