I am Wendy Horton, the librarian here at J. O. Davis Elementary. I have 21 years of experience teaching elementary students in the classroom and earned my master’s in library science to become a librarian in 2018.
I LOVE my job as a librarian! Reading is one of the most important skills that can help you with many aspects of school and life. Research shows that reading impacts multiple academic areas as well as strengthening your brain, increases vocabulary, helps you empathize, and so much more. There are also health benefits to reading. According to Healthline, reading can help you sleep, alleviate depression, help you live longer and more.
I am so lucky to have my assistant, Sandra Rivera. She is here to assist parents, students, and teachers with finding books, getting badges, and much more. She is also bilingual and loves
to help people.
I encourage parents/guardians to stop by the library to get a library card. You can check out books from any public school in the Irving school district for yourself, as well as for your children. Due to the pandemic we are not sharing books with other schools right now or allowing parent visitors as a safety precaution, but we hope to open the library to parents sometime later this school year. I look forward to meeting you then!
