Emergency Response
Irving ISD school nurses care for students who become sick or injured at school and are also prepared to respond to medical emergencies. Nurses are trained to act quickly, provide immediate care, and stay with students until emergency medical services arrive. School staff may also receive training in emergency bleeding control, including the possible use of tourniquets. Together, nursing care, staff training, and emergency preparedness help keep students safe and supported during the school day.
Automated External Defibrillator (AEDs)
Irving ISD is committed to student and staff safety through comprehensive cardiac emergency preparedness on every campus. In accordance with Texas Senate Bill 865 (SB 865), each school is equipped with Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and maintains a structured Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP). AEDs are strategically placed for quick access and are designed to be safe and effective for use by trained responders during a sudden cardiac arrest.
Each campus has an identified Cardiac Emergency Response (CERP) Team composed of trained staff members who are prepared to respond quickly and effectively during a cardiac emergency. These teams participate in regular training and drills to ensure a coordinated and timely response.
Irving ISD also implements Project ADAM, a nationally recognized program focused on preventing sudden cardiac death in schools. Through Project ADAM, the district strengthens emergency planning, staff training, and continuous improvement of cardiac response systems. Together, AED availability, trained response teams, and Project ADAM implementation help ensure every Irving ISD campus is prepared to respond swiftly and effectively in the event of a cardiac emergency.
