Anaphylaxis is a serious, life‑threatening allergic reaction that can occur suddenly. Common triggers include certain foods, insect stings, medications, latex, or exercise. Because symptoms may include breathing difficulties, low blood pressure, or shock, immediate treatment with epinephrine is critical.

Irving ISD is committed to supporting the safety of students with severe allergies. While an allergy‑free environment cannot be guaranteed, clear guidelines and trained staff help ensure students can safely participate in school activities. Students at risk for anaphylaxis may carry and self‑administer epinephrine at school when authorized by a healthcare provider and approved by the school nurse.

Parents of students with known severe allergies are expected to provide an individual supply of emergency medication and work with the school nurse to complete required medical paperwork, including an Allergy Action Plan.
