Vision
Vision screening programs in Irving ISD help determine whether a student’s vision falls within the normal range by answering one key question: does the child need further assessment? Because an estimated 80 percent of learning is visual, identifying vision concerns early is essential. Early detection and referral can significantly impact a child’s academic performance, classroom participation, and overall quality of life.
In accordance with Texas guidelines, vision screenings are conducted by trained and certified personnel using standardized distance vision acuity tests, such as the Sloan and HOTV eye charts. These quick, noninvasive screenings help identify students who may need further evaluation by an eye care professional and do not serve as a diagnosis.
Vision is conducted in: PK, K, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th grades, and any new students to Irving ISD.
