Teacher Retention Allotment
As part of Irving ISD’s continued commitment to attracting, retaining, and rewarding highly effective educators, the Board of Trustees approved updates to the 2026-2027 teacher salary schedule at tonight’s Board meeting, including the District’s Teacher Retention Allotment (TRA) distribution structure for the upcoming school year.
Throughout the 2025-2026 school year, Irving ISD engaged teachers, academic specialists, assistant principals, principals, district leadership and stakeholder groups in extensive strategic compensation planning. These efforts support the District’s long-term vision of recognizing educator effectiveness, strengthening student outcomes and investing in the recruitment and retention of outstanding educators.
In alignment with Irving ISD’s participation in the Enhanced Teacher Incentive Allotment (Enhanced TIA) framework and applicable provisions of the Texas Education Code, participating districts are provided flexibility to align Teacher Retention Allotment distributions with locally adopted performance-based compensation systems.
The update includes Teacher Retention Allotment (TRA) adjustments for teachers meeting the definition of “classroom teacher” pursuant to Texas Education Code § 5.001.
For the 2026-2027 school year, eligible teachers meeting applicable statutory requirements will receive TRA funds as an alternate salary based on performance as measured by the teacher’s 2025-2026 T-TESS Summative evaluation score according to the following structure:
- 10 percent: $1,500
- >10 and <50 percent: $3,000
- ≥50 percent: $5,500
This transition represents an important step in Irving ISD's strategic compensation vision by connecting compensation more closely to educator effectiveness while continuing to recognize excellence across the District.
Under the new model, approximately two-thirds of Irving ISD teachers are projected to receive more compensation than they would have under the previous tenure-based distribution structure. In addition, early-career teachers who were previously ineligible for TRA funding will now have the opportunity to earn between $1,500 and $5,500 based on performance.
