Applying to College

Applying to college is a big step!  Your Irving ISD high school counselor and teachers are here to support you. You are not alone!

Helpful items to have available as you complete your college applications:

  • Resume
    • coursework taken
    • extracurricular activities
    • honors and awards
    • leadership roles
    • work experience
  • Transcript
  • Social security number (if you have one)
  • Parent contact information

Applying for college in Texas? Most colleges and universities use the Apply Texas application.  Complete one application and apply to multiple colleges.

Applying to colleges outside of Texas?  The Common App is used by 1000's of colleges and universities across the United States.  Complete one application and apply to multiple colleges.

Steps for a COMPLETE college application:

  • Submit online application though Apply Texas, or Common App, or university website
  • Request current high school transcript to be sent to college or university
  • Send SAT or ACT scores, if your college or university requires them to be sent
    • must be sent directly from the testing site to your college or university
  • Pay college application fee (if there is a fee) or use a college application fee waiver (if you qualify)
