Dual Credit

What is Dual Credit?

Dual credit is a program that allows high school students to take college-level courses and earn credit for both high school and college simultaneously.

Irving Independent School District  has a partnership with Dallas College offering Irving ISD students the opportunity to take Core Curriculum and Career and Technical courses leading to core completion, certificates and, in some cases, an Associate degree.

Irving students take college-level classes taught by fully credentialed Dallas College faculty members. The credits earned through dual credit programs can be applied towards both their high school diploma and future college degrees. This approach provides students with an opportunity to get a head start on their college education, potentially reducing the time and cost required to complete a degree after high school graduation.

Irving ISD comprehensive high schools (Irving High School, MacArthur High School, and Nimitz High School) offer courses focused on the Texas Core Curriculum

Examples of Core Curriculum coursework include:

  • English Composition
  • College Algebra
  • Science (courses vary by campus)
  • US History
  • Government/ Economics
  • Speech
  • Art Appreciation

Specific course options vary by high school campus.  Please see your high school counselor for more information.

Singley Academy, Singley Collegiate (ECHS) and South Irving Collegiate at Nimitz (P-TECH) have certificate and Associate Degree options.
