Parents can register for PreK online.

Irving ISD offers half-day PreK for 3-year-olds who qualify. The program is housed at the early childhood schools. Spots are limited.

Irving ISD offers free and tuition-based full-day PreK for 4-year-olds at all elementary schools and early childhood schools. 

Qualifying 4-year-olds can also attend full-day PreK through Head Start at the early childhood schools.

For students who qualify for free PreK, there is no tuition charge.

For those that do not qualify for free PreK, the district offers a tuition-based option for 3- and 4-year-olds. The average weekly tuition rate is $100 and is due on the first day of each month. 

Three-year-old students who qualify for the free half-day program can enroll in our full-day tuition-based program for approximately $50/week.

Half-day PreK for 3-year-olds:

• Morning Session: 7:45 - 10:45 AM (Doors open at 7:15 AM)
• Afternoon Session: 12:15 - 3:15 PM (Lunch is served from 11:45 AM - 12:15 PM)

Full-day PreK for 4-year-olds:

• Tuition-Based: 7:45 AM - 3:15 PM (Doors open at 7:15 AM. After-school care is provided until 5:30 PM)
• Head Start: 7:45 AM - 3:15 PM (Doors open at 7:15 AM)

PreK is not mandatory.

For students enrolled in PreK, attendance is required. PreK students are subject to compulsory school attendance rules while they are enrolled in school.

Irving ISD focuses on the whole child, making sure they are successful academically, physically, emotionally and socially.

Students learn through hands-on activities and engaging applications on provided iPads, have access to state-of-the-art playgrounds and are taught by a certified teacher and instructional aide.

PreK is the jumpstart kids need to prepare for kindergarten and beyond. 

Irving ISD provides transportation for 4-year-olds if they meet the transportation eligibility requirements

There is no transportation for 3-year-old students unless they qualify for special education services. There is also no transportation for students on a transfer.

Families who live within Irving ISD boundaries may submit a transfer request for PreK.Transfers for out-of-district families are currently unavailable – unless you are an Irving ISD employee. Only district employees can submit an out-of-district transfer request for PreK.

By September 1, your child must be 3-years-old to qualify for PreK 3 or 4 years-old to qualify for PreK 4 by September 1.

We do not make exceptions for the birth date.

Children of active duty military personnel now qualify for PreK services. This includes:

• Active duty, uniformed members of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force or Coast Guard
• Activated/mobilized uniformed members of the Texas National Guard or activated/mobilized members of the reserves
• Children of military personnel who were killed or injured while on active duty also qualify for PreK services.

The parent or guardian must verify military membership by presenting a Department of Defense photo ID, an official letter from a commander, a Department of Defense death certificate form or a Purple Heart citation.

While it is not mandatory that your child is potty trained to attend public PreK, your child should be potty trained by age 3 or 4.

The teacher will not be spending individual time teaching potty training skills. While the teacher will set a schedule and encourage your child, the classroom teacher is responsible for the academic curriculum and assessment for a classroom of students. 

The aide in the classroom is there to assist when there are accidents; however, she/he is also responsible for giving academic support to students in small groups and stations. It is not possible to spend the amount of time that is necessary to potty train a student at school.

If your child is 4-years-old by September 1, he or she may attend our excellent tuition-based PreK program at one of the three early childhood schools for $100 a week.
