Decrease Workplace Injuries

The best way to prevent injuries and the accompanying costs would be to avoid the injury. The district does the following to prevent an injury and protect the workforce:

Safety Committee

District Loss Control Committee (LCC) has been established and routinely meets to identify and coordinate corrective measures needed to eliminate or control recognized safety and health hazards throughout the district.  In addition to this committee, departmental committees are being created as well. These committees meet monthly to review accidents that have occurred within the department. Please contact the Risk Management Department if your department would like to receive the training required to form a committee.

Educate Employees and Management Staff

Safety standards are continually cultivated. Districtwide training is provided to reiterate the importance of following safety measures as often as possible. Supplemental training in body mechanics is also provided to reduce strain injuries to keep employees safe during lifting and moving.

Research Safety Vulnerabilities

The LCC pays extra attention to common accidents and develops strategies to keep them from recurring.

Provide Protection Equipment

Employees are provided and taught how to properly use personal protection equipment (PPE), such as goggles, face protection, gloves, safety shoes, etc. PPE is essential and is enforced at hiring, meetings, and with spontaneous monitoring.

Don't Take Shortcuts

Accidents happen when employees skip steps to complete a job ahead of schedule. It is critically important to make sure all instructions are clear and organized to prevent undue mishaps in the workplace.

Keep An Orderly Workplace

Poor housekeeping can cause serious health and safety hazards. Irving ISD has dedicated staff that works diligently to ensure the cleanliness of all district facilities in order to provide a pleasant and productive atmosphere for our students, staff, and community.

Unfortunately, no matter how much we prepare, an accident can still occur, and an employee can still get injured.  When that happens, the district is prepared to quickly get them the care they need.
