Volunteer Background Checks & Waivers

Irving ISD values our volunteers and wants to provide a safe environment for them to come on campus and work with our staff and students.

Volunteers may be asked by schools to complete a liability waiver that acknowledges participation at one's own risk.

Do I Need to Complete a Volunteer Background Check?

If the parent/guardian only intends (1) to visit the campus for a class party/event, (2) to meet their child at a field trip in addition to an already approved chaperone at a field trip, or (3) to come to the classroom or common area to meet with their child/eat lunch, THEN they can continue with the Raptor system at the school to scan their ID card during each visit, and no formal submission for a volunteer background check is required.

If the parent/guardian intends to work with/interact directly with other students in any manner other than their own child while on campus or during a school-sponsored event, or at any point in time may be assisting in the co-supervision of other children alongside district staff (i.e., a field trip chaperone, lunch duty assistance, etc.), THEN they should complete the formal volunteer background check.
