Drug and Alcohol Prevention

Substance abuse prevention is important to help develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to make good choices. The use of drugs and alcohol during childhood and adolescence has more potential to disrupt brain function in areas critical to motivation, memory, learning, judgment, and behavior control, because the brain is still developing. We want to equip parents with resources and encourage our students to make wise choices concerning their wellbeing and help them reach their full potential.

National Drug and Alcohol Awareness Initiatives

Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October. It began as a tribute to fallen DEA special agent Enrique Camerena in 1985 and is the nation's oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program .

National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week is an annual, week-long health observance in March that inspires dialogue about the science of drug use and addiction among youth. NDAFW provides an opportunity to bring together scientists, students, educators, healthcare providers, and community partners to help advance science and address youth drug and alcohol use in communities and nationwide.
