The Omni Room

Lady Bird Johnson middle school was designed to be one of the largest Net Zero public school building in the United States.  The building was also designed to provide a unique field trip experience for IISD students.  Instructional kiosks in the main hallway were designed and created to give students hands-on instruction regarding:

  • Geothermal Energy
  • Wind Energy
  • Solar Energy
  • Water Conservation

Log in with your district credentials to access Teacher Resources, including Omni Room schedules.

Field Trips to the Omni

Fourth Grade students will explore the topics of alternative energy and conservation in the setting of Irving ISD’s new Net Zero School.

During the Field Trip:

  • Students will use the Omniroom Lab and the Instructional Kiosks in the main hallway to learn about alternative energy resource, circuits.
  • Students will use exciting, challenging equipment (Snap Circuits™, iPads, Instructional Kiosks) to find solutions to questions found in their student field guides.
  • Learners will share and discuss their discoveries and remaining questions.
  • Students will be divided into 2 groups.  One group will stay in the lab to work with Snap circuit models.  The second group will explore the 4 learning Kiosks in the main hall.  The groups will switch at the One-hour mark.  Teachers will stay with their students in the hall and lead them through the 4 kiosks.

Post Visit:

  • Students will keep their Field Guides and incorporate them into their science notebooks.

  • Conservation strategies learned and discussed during the field trip can be applied by students at school, home or in their community.

Desired learning Outcomes:

  • Provide students the opportunities to understand the significance of alternative energy, conservation and connections to home, school and community.
  • Enable students to better utilize tools, equipment, and critical thinking to answer complex questions in real world situations.
  • Encourage students to pursue STEM education and career paths that will positively impact the decisions and choices they make.
