Application Requirements

  • Barbara Cardwell Career Preparatory Center serves students who are seeking an non-traditional schooling environment through the following programs: Credit Lab, House, STAR, and CEHI. To learn more about each program click here.

     

     

    Application Requirements for STAR Academy 

     

    To be eligible to apply for the STAR Academy, students must turn 14 by September 1st of the anticipated school year. To apply for the STAR Academy,  students must complete the STAR Academy Application (located below). The application process for the following school year is open from late February to the first day of school. Send the completed application along with the most recent report card to Eddie Vernon at evernon@irvingisd.net or drop it off at our main office.

     

     

    Application Requirements for the House 

     

    To apply for the House program, submit the online application located below. For In-District applicants, our office staff will pull your discipline, attendance, and academic records. Out-of-District applicants, must bring their most recent report card and transcript and latest TAKS/STAAR scores. All applications are reviewed by our counselors, who will determine eligible candidates. Eligible candidates will require a face-to-face interview (face-to-face interviews with minors require a parent to be present). The application process is open year round. 

     

     

    Application Requirements for the Credit Lab Program 

     

    To apply for the Credit Lab program, you must meet the following requirements:

     

    • Must have earned at least 17 high school credits,
    • Must be able to earn the remaining credits with courses offered through the Credit Lab Curriculum,
    • Must attend a minimum of four(4) hours per day: 
    Morning Classes 8:15am - 12:15pm
    Afternoon Classes 12:15pm - 4:15pm
    • Must maintain good attendance in order to have access to the Credit Lab licenses. 
     
     
     Credit Lab Application Process:
     
    • Submit the online application located below.
    • For In-District applicants, our office staff will pull your discipline, attendance, and academic records. Out-of-District applicants, must bring their most recent report card and transcript and latest TAKS/STAAR scores.
    • All applications are reviewed by our counselors, who will determine eligible candidates. Eligible candidates will require a face-to-face interview (face-to-face interviews with minors require a parent to be present). 
    • If the student meets the criteria, but space is not available, the student will be placed on a waiting list. As space becomes available, Cardwell Prep will contact the students on the waiting list. 
    • Students who are accepted are required to attend an orientation meeting(parents must accompany minors).
    • The application process is open year round. 

     

     

    Compensatory Education Home Instruction (CEHI) registration is completed at a student's home campus.
