What is Assistive Technology?

  • Assistive Technology provides students with disabilities the opportunity to access the curriculum, increase independence, and participate actively in education and life activities through technology that may range from low-tech to high tech. The student evaluation may occur in the student's natural learning environment to determine what skills or tasks are needed in order to be successful in the least restrictive environment for the student. Possible solutions are then provided on a trial basis until the best solution is determined.

The following areas reviewed: written or verbal communication, computer access, software to support IEP goals.
