This year, Irving ISD is home to three seniors who received the highest honor a student musician can earn by the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). Clarinet player Ivan Castro from Nimitz High School was selected to join the 2018 All-State Band. Placing in the All-State Choir are vocalists Tatum Griffin from Nimitz and Irving’s Cynthia Lopez Quinteros. After excelling at the Region 20 audition and Area competition, they now join top performers state-wide for the ensembles, a prestigious honor only a small percentage of high school musicians reach. The three will travel to San Antonio in February for three days of rehearsals and a performance directed by nationally-recognized conductors during the annual TMEA Clinic and Convention.
