Magda Hernández, Acting Superintendent

  • Irving ISD Accepts Superintendent Resignation, Names Acting Superintendent  At a special-called meeting on September 17, the Irving ISD Board of Trustees appointed Deputy Superintendent of Administrative Services Magda Hernández as acting superintendent for the district.

    Hernández has served Irving ISD for 23 years in various roles, most recently as deputy superintendent of administrative services as well as associate superintendent of human resources, assistant superintendent of human resources, director of human resources, HR staffing and recruiting coordinator, assistant principal at Townley Elementary School, bilingual and gifted and talented teacher at Good Elementary School and bilingual instructional aide.

    Hernández also held the position of assistant superintendent of human resources in Waxahachie ISD. She graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from Texas Woman’s University (TWU) and later returned to TWU for her master’s degree in educational administration. She also holds superintendent certification from the University of North Texas.

    Hernández will serve as acting superintendent until an interim superintendent is named.

    Earlier in the meeting, the board accepted the voluntary separation agreement with outgoing Superintendent of Schools Jose L. Parra, effective September 21.

    In a joint statement of the board of trustees and Dr. Parra, Dr. Parra thanked the present and past board of trustees for providing him with the opportunity to serve in the Irving Independent School District. Click here for the full statement.
