  • Nimitz Engineering Nimitz Engineering Headed to National SeaPerch Competition!

The SeaPerch program is a national under-water robotics competition sponsored by the U.S. Navy to promote STEM. The SeaPerch competition is comprised of two under-water events, as well as an engineering notebook/presentation event. Students are required to build a custom Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) capable of completing a series of challenges, as well as maneuvering through an obstacle course.

Nimitz was represented at the Dallas competition by 32 students, competing in nine teams. In the obstacle course event, Nimitz teams made a clean sweep! Nimitz captured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the High School division. In the challenge course event, Nimitz teams capture 2nd and 3rd place in the High School division. For the engineering notebook/presentation event, Nimitz again captured 2nd and 3rd place in the High School division. Additionally, the “Sea Sparrow” team of Tan Hoang, Pedro Gonzalez, Fabian Lopez, and Andres Esparza captured the 1st place overall title for the High School division!

Three Nimitz teams are moving on to the National SeaPerch competition in May at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta! The “Sea Sparrow”, “Mjolnir”, and “Ragnarok” teams will head to Atlanta to represent Nimitz.
