From July 19th through July 22nd, 12 students from the Law Enforcement program and 8 students from the Homeland Security program competed at the Texas Law Enforcement Explorer and Advisor Association State Competition at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Students competed against 74 teams from across Texas and teams from Kansas and Mississippi. The Law Enforcement students brought home 9 event trophies and 3rd place Overall and the Homeland Security students brought home 1 event trophy.
The Law Enforcement team consisting of Vanessa De La Cruz, Lizeth Alvarado, Lizbeth Alvarado and Lennyn Hernandez earned 3rd place Overall and 1st place in: Officer Down; Felony Traffic Stops; Domestic Crisis; and Arrest, Search and Seizure; and 2nd place in Intoxicated Driver.
The Law Enforcement team consisting of Kimberly Galo, Ken Nguyen, Saimon Espinoza and Samuel Hernandez earned 1st place in Misdemeanor Traffic Stops and 2nd Place in Unknown Call and Intoxicated Driver. The Law Enforcement team consisting of Angel Parks, Khawaja Ayaan, Dipanker Poudel and Kiolah Livaie earned 2nd place in Felony Traffic Stops. The Homeland Security team earned 2nd place in Unknown Call. Additionally, Homeland Security student Ebyn Ruiz earned 2nd place in the individual Bicycle Obstacle Course.
The Law Enforcement students would like to give a special thanks to the Irving Schools Foundation for granting them the funds necessary to attend and compete in the competition.
First Student will manage and operate all Irving ISD student transportation services as part of a five-year contract beginning August 1, 2018. Dallas County Schools will continue to provide services to the district through the end of July. Irving ISD students and families can expect bus transportation to continue during the transition.
