News and Features

  •  Grizzlies who were just in Kindergarten, 1st grade or 2nd grade it's time to "Catch the Reading Wave" this summer.  Here's how:

    • Who: Current K-2 students (2016-2017)

    • When:  June 5- August 20

    • What: Catch the Reading Wave Summer Challenge! We are challenging each student to read 1,000 minutes AND complete 30 reading activities during the summer.  This averages out to be about 15 minutes of reading a day and completion of 3 activities per week.  Students will receive a reading packet at the end of the school year and will return the completed packet to their 2017-2018 teacher.   All students who read 1,000 minutes and complete 30 reading activities will win a prize.

    • Where:  Students will complete the reading challenge at home. The Gilbert library will be open periodically throughout the summer to give Gilbert students an opportunity to check out books and to earn prizes.  Students can also visit the public library to check out books.

      • The Gilbert Library will be open every Monday in June from 8am to 12 noon.

We know that our fierce Grizzlies will do an excellent job to become the best readers in Irving ISD…because who’s better than us? Nobody!  If you have any questions about the summer reading challenge, please contact your child’s teacher
