The Townleys As with all elementary schools in Irving, Townley Elementary was named after a local person who contributed to the community. Dr. John F. Townley began his career in the Everman Independent School District in 1952 and served as a classroom teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent of schools. In 1970, he joined Irving Independent School District as superintendent. He retired from the school district in 1985. Throughout the years, Dr. Townley devoted his life to children as a teacher and administrator.
