Dr. Ed Henderson, Principal
Dr. Edmond Henderson, II is an educator and administrator with over 15 years of experience in education. A true servant leader, he has dedicated his career to developing well-rounded, successful students who are equipped academically and socially to thrive in society. In 2003, he began his teaching career as a first-grade and third-grade math and science teacher at Arlington Park Community Learning Center in Dallas Independent School District. After six years of classroom instruction, Dr. Henderson took a leadership position in Sherman, Texas as assistant principal of Dillingham Intermediate School. Dr. Henderson joined the Irving Independent School District in 2012. He served as an assistant principal at Thomas Haley and T.J. Lee elementary schools until he was appointed principal of W.T. Hanes Elementary School in 2015.
Dr. Henderson holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Dallas Baptist University. He earned his master’s in educational administration from Prairie View A&M University and is also a graduate of Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. He holds superintendent, principal, and teacher certifications and is a member of the Texas Elementary Principal and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).
Adriana Arrieta, Assistant Principal
Adriana Arrieta has been an educator since 2005. She has lived in Dallas all of her life and is a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University and her M.Ed. in Urban Leadership and Education from the University of Texas at Austin. For 8 years, Adriana was a two-way dual language teacher at Caillet Elementary in Dallas ISD. In 2014, she joined the Irving ISD family as a literacy interventionist at Townsell Elementary.
Adriana is honored to be an assistant principal here at W.T. Hanes. She is dedicated to ensuring a quality education for every student. She hopes to give as much to her peers as she learns from them. Adriana believes that a well-balanced campus will enrich both students and educators. As assistant principal, she wants to continue the success of W.T. Hanes and help everyone reach their potential.
Dr. Joy Runnels, Assistant Principal
Dr. Joy Runnels has been living her passion in the education field since 2004. As a servant leader, she is committed to serving the students, staff, and community of Hanes Elementary School while ensuring our students are provided quality instruction that engages each unique student. Dr. Runnels joined the Irving ISD family as an Academic Specialist at Townley Elementary in 2015, and assistant principal at W.T. Hanes since 2016. Prior to joining the Irving family, Dr. Runnels began her teaching career in Dallas Independent School District as an elementary ELAR teacher. After teaching for nine years, she became an ELAR Campus-based Instructional Coach from 2013-2015.
Dr. Runnels is a Dallas native and high school graduate from Townview Magnet Center. She holds a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University, Master’s in Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce, and a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Prairie View A&M University.
