Administrator Bios

  • Manny Espino, Principal

    Manny Espino, who has served as an administrator in Irving ISD for six years, has been named principal of Houston Middle School. He previously served as principal of Barton Elementary School for two years and served the district as an assistant principal at Austin Middle School and MacArthur High School, where he was also dean of students.

    Before joining Team Irving, Espino worked in Garland ISD as a fourth- and fifth-grade bilingual teacher and fourth-grade ELAR and Social Studies teacher.

    Espino earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Stephen F. Austin State University in December 2011. In addition, he holds a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University - Commerce, and he is working on his doctorate in Educational Leadership at Southwestern College.

  • Nancy Atkinson, 6th Grade Assistant Principal

    Nancy Atkinson graduated from UTA with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. She then received her master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction as well as her principal's certificate from Western Governors University.

    Nancy began working for Irving ISD in 2009 as a paraprofessional at Crockett Middle School. After that, she spent a year at Nimitz High School and two years at Wheeler Transitional Center. Nancy started working at Sam Houston Middle School in 2017 where she currently serves as the sixth grade assistant principal.

  • Janice Houston, 7th Grade Administrative Liaison

    Mrs. Houston is entering her 16th year in education. She has spent half of that time serving students and families at Sam Houston where she taught 7th grade English, AVID, and worked in the role of Digital Learning Coach before taking on her new role as 7th grade Administrator.

    Prior to Irving ISD, Mrs. Houston taught elementary and middle school and was an Adjunct Instructor for Dallas County Community College District. Mrs. Houston loves inspiring students, and her favorite quote is “Be the change you want to see in the world,” something she encourages students to always strive to do.

    Mrs. Houston earned a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Education in Administration from Stephen F. Austin University. When not working, Mrs. Houston enjoys reading and baking and spending time with husband and three children.

  • Celeste Hunt, 8th Grade Assistant Principal

    Celeste Hunt is the eighth-grade Assistant Principal at Sam Houston Middle school.  Mrs. Hunt brings 15 years of classroom experience to her position.  She received her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of North Texas and her Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University. After graduating with her BSW, Mrs. Hunt worked with runaway youth at Promise House and served as Director of Genesis Women’s Shelter. 

    Deciding to serve the community through education, Mrs. Hunt obtained her teaching certification and holds certification in English Language Arts 4-8 and Special Education PreK-12.   In 2013, Mrs. Hunt entered administration as the administrative liaison for Bowie Middle School.  The following year, she was promoted to assistant principal.  Mrs. Hunt moved to Sam Houston Middle School in 2018 as an assistant principal. 

    When Mrs. Hunt is not at Sam Houston, she enjoys traveling and cooking with her husband.  They have two dogs and two cats.

  • Alicia Jackson, Dean of Students

    Alicia Jackson is a native of the Dallas area. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology with a minor in Kinesiology from Jarvis Christian College, and went on to earn her Masters of Art in Education with a concentration in Instructional Leadership from Argosy University. Jackson is currently completing her Principal Internship through Lamar University Principal Program.

    Jackson's passion is to advocate and work with children of all ages and see them learn and grow to be lifelong learners and productive citizens. Over her career, her assignments included 7th grade Science Teacher, Special Education Teacher, Coach and Dean of Student's. 

    Jackson strives to create a school culture where all staff members truly believe that ALL students can and will learn.  She is most proud of the positive and trusting relationships that she has developed with her students, parents, staff, and the school community.
