Jeffrey Dorman, Principal
Mr. Dorman became principal of Sam Houston Middle School in 2014. He previously was the Associate Principal at MacArthur High School. “I am extremely excited about the opportunity to be a part of the Houston Middle School family,” says Dorman. “I look forward to building relationships with the students, parents and the community as we continue to pursue academic success for all students.”
Mr. Dorman, who is in his 23rd year of education, served as a high school assistant principal in Garland ISD for seven years and a physical education teacher in Dallas ISD for twelve years.
In addition, Dorman served in United States Army for ten years, before he was honorably discharged in 1992. In the military, he earned the Bronze Star Medal, five Certificates of Achievement, three Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal and the Southwest Asia Service Medal. He earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Prairie View A&M University and a bachelor’s degree from Paul Quinn College. He also holds principal and secondary physical education certifications.
Celeste Hunt, 8th Grade Assistant Principal
Celeste Hunt is the eight-grade Assistant Principal at Sam Houston Middle school. Mrs. Hunt brings 15 years of classroom experience to her position. She received her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of North Texas and her Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University. After graduating with her BSW, Mrs. Hunt worked with runaway youth at Promise House and served as Director of Genesis Women’s Shelter. Deciding to serve the community through education, Mrs. Hunt obtained her teaching certification and holds certification in English Language Arts 4-8 and Special Education PreK-12. In 2013, Mrs. Hunt entered administration as the administrative liaison for Bowie Middle School. The following year, she was promoted to assistant principal. Mrs. Hunt moved to Sam Houston Middle School in 2018 as an assistant principal. When Mrs. Hunt is not at Sam Houston, she enjoys traveling and cooking with her husband. They have two dogs and two cats.
Nancy Atkinson, 6th Grade Assistant Principal
Nancy Atkinson grew up in Navasota, Texas. She graduated from UTA with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. She then received her master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction as well as her principal's certificate from Western Governors University. Nancy began working for Irving ISD in 2009. She taught special education at Crockett Middle School for four years and served as the department chair. After that, she spent a year at Nimitz High School and two years at Wheeler Transitional and Developmental Center. Nancy started working at Sam Houston Middle School in 2017 where she currently serves as the sixth grade assistant principal.
