  • 1. Q: Do students need a permission slip to go on the OLC field trip?

        A: No. This is an in-district field trip, so no permission slip is required. There is a note home in English and in Spanish wihin the packet sent to teachers from the OLC.

     

    2. Q: Do students need to bring water to the OLC?

        A: 5th Grade - YES        1st, 2nd, and LIFE - NO 

     

    3. Q: What do 5th grade students need to bring with them to the OLC?

         A: DO BRING: sack lunch, water bottle, sunglasses, hat

             DO NOT BRING: pencils, library books, backpacks, bug spray, sunscreen, sweet drinks, candy, money (there is no gift shop), gum, or coolers for the lunches (the students are split up and each needs to carry their own lunch in the backpack we provide).

     

    4. Q: Do animals live at the OLC?

         A: Yes. 

     

    5. Q: Can parents come on the field trip?

         A: No. Since this is an in-district field trip, there is no need for parent chaperones.

     

    6. Q: Is the OLC open to the public?

         A: The OLC is closed during school hours for field trips. Anyone may walk the trails before 7:30 am or after 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, and during daylight hours on weekends. It is closed after dark.

     

    7. Q: What do you do if a student or teacher has a medical emergency?

         A: We work with the school nurse at Jack E Singley Academy when we have medical emergencies.

     

    8. Q: What should students wear to the OLC?

         A: Students should wear long pants and close-toed shoes. They should also wear layers appropriate for the weather.

     

    9. Q: Is there a gift shop?

         A: No.

     

    10. Q: Do LIFE Students come with their grade-level GenEd classmates?

          A: LIFE students should come with their grade level GenEd students if they are part of science inclusion with that class. Otherwise, LIFE classes have their own field trips in the spring.
