Learning Services

  • Our Learning Services team is committed to educating Irving ISD students with equity and excellence. We serve students and empower educators in the areas of curriculum & instruction, gifted & talented services, bilingual/ESL programming, special education services and dyslexia therapy. 

    Additionally, we provide support in the areas of research & evaluation, data governance, and professional learning. We strive to work towards our district mission of ensuring that each student attains intellectual and personal excellence.

  • Jackie   Jackie Gorena, Ed.D.

    Chief Learning Officer

    As the Chief Learning Officer for Irving ISD, Jacquelyn Gorena, Ed.D., strives with her team to implement instructional strategies, a high quality curriculum and learning technologies to accelerate learning for all students in the district. Throughout her career, Dr. Gorena has focused on improving student and teacher performance, including being a strong advocate for equity in education and supporter of STEM.

    As principal, she led three Irving elementary schools, Otis Brown, Stipes, and Barton to improve their state’s accountability rating:  Brown from Acceptable to Recognized, Stipes from Acceptable to Exemplary, and Barton from Improvement Required to Met Standard.

    Prior to accepting the position of Chief Learning Officer, Dr. Gorena served as Executive Director of Human Resources. She was named the Region 10 Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) Principal of the Year in 2013, and a finalist for the National Distinguished TEPSA Principal and HEB Excellence in Education Principal in 2012. In 2000, she was a Raise Your Hand Texas Grant Recipient for Harvard’s Graduate School of Education Conference 2011. As a teacher, she was one the top 12 Finalists for Oklahoma Teacher of the Year in 2000.

    Dr. Gorena is certified as a superintendent and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Texas State University, a master’s degree in educational administration from East Central Oklahoma, and a doctorate from Dallas Baptist University.
