    UIL Area Marching Contest

This past weekend, our Irving ISD bands competed in the UIL Area Marching Contest. This competition caps off a very successful season for our bands. Not since 2018 have all three Irving ISD bands advanced to the Area round of UIL Marching. Their directors, Scott Anderson, Ana Hinajosa, and Nathan Ewing along with their assistants have done an amazing job preparing the students to do their best.

Please help me congratulate the 21-22 Lamar MS Competition Band on being named the Citation of Excellence Winner by the Foundation of Music Education!  This is a state-wide competition only attended by the very best band programs across the state.  Among those programs, Lamar band was in the top 25% earning the Citation of Excellence Winner award.

The recording that was submitted was put together in only 7 rehearsals after school from start to finish.  Kim and I could not be prouder of the work ethic shown by the students and their resilience in overcoming significant obstacles.  We are also amazed by the parental support of these students at the UIL concert & sightreading contest.

Most importantly, this could not have been accomplished without the immense support of Mr. Ogle, the assistant principals, and counselors!  Thank you so much for making our job a joy every day!
