    Chief of Schools

    As Chief of Schools, Ahna Gomez, who has worked in the district for 10 years and has a collective 25 years of experience in education, oversees school leadership; campus operations; career and technical education; clinic and health services; fine arts; guidance, counseling, and college and career readiness.

    Gomez most recently served as Executive Director of Secondary Schools for Irving ISD. She also served as an associate principal at MacArthur High School for three years and the principal of Irving High School for six years, during which she led campus efforts in earning Distinction Designations for Academic Achievement (Science, Social Studies) and Comparative Academic Growth; increasing the graduation rate by 6.2%; developing and piloting the Early College Start program; and improving attendance from 92.3% to 93.2%.

    Gomez has also been an Executive Director in Fort Worth ISD, where she created systems of support for three identified needs improvement campuses resulting in increased achievement on mid-year benchmarks and adherence to targeted improvement plans.

    She began her career as an elementary math and science teacher in Dallas ISD, where she also taught middle school science and was a middle school principal.

    Gomez earned a Master of Education in educational administration from the University of North Texas, Master of Arts in interdisciplinary science from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor of Arts in biology from St. Mary’s University. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas.
